Step into the intimate world of Circle Mirror Transformation, Annie Baker’s quietly powerful and deeply human play that reveals how small moments can spark profound change. Set in a modest community center in rural Vermont, five strangers gather for a six-week adult drama class. What begins as a series of quirky theater games—counting to ten together, pretending to be trees—slowly unravels into something far more personal.
Through awkward silences, hesitant confessions, and unexpected bursts of humor, the characters’ guarded lives begin to intersect. Secrets surface, relationships shift, and each participant is gently transformed in ways they never anticipated. Baker’s writing captures the beauty of ordinary speech and the vulnerability of human connection, making every pause and glance feel electric.
Winner of the Obie Award for Best New American Play, Circle Mirror Transformation is a tender, funny, and quietly heartbreaking exploration of how we reveal ourselves—sometimes without even realizing it. With its rich emotional undercurrents and deceptively simple premise, this play invites audiences to witness the extraordinary within the everyday.
