AUDITIONS NOW OPEN

Authenticity Theater is currently accepting virtual submissions for its January 2024 production of THE WHALE by Samuel D. Hunter, directed by Robby Myles. The show will be presented at 7 Stages Backstage Theatre in Atlanta from Jan 18th through Jan 21st.

THE WHALE

On the outskirts of Mormon Country, Idaho, a 600-pound recluse hides away in his apartment and slowly eats himself to death. Desperate to reconnect with his long-estranged daughter, he reaches out to her, only to find a viciously sharp-tongued and wildly unhappy teen. Big-hearted and fiercely funny, The Whale tells the story of a man’s last chance at redemption, and of finding beauty in the most unexpected places.

CASTING

THE WHALE will utilize a cast of five actors to play the following roles:

  • CHARLIE – Early to mid-forties, male, weighing around 600 lbs (Must be comfortable with wearing a large bodysuit)
  • LIZ – 20’s to late-30s, female. 
  • ELDER THOMAS – 19, male. 
  • ELLIE – 17, female. 
  • MARY – Early to mid-forties, female. (THIS ROLE HAS ALREADY BEEN CAST)

Actors of all ethnicities, gender identities, disabilities, body types, and ages 18+ are encouraged to audition.

AUDITIONS & CALLBACKS

Please submit (1)  your video audition, (2) a PDF of your headshot and resume, as well as (3) any major conflicts between November 27th and January 21st via our online submission system by 11:59 PM on Sunday, October 1st. Callbacks will take place in person on Monday, October 23rd at a location to be determined.

NOTE: Due to its content, we encourage interested performers to research the show before submitting. The script engages with sensitive content that includes self harm, religious themes, and disabilities. 

TIME COMMITMENT

Rehearsals will begin on Monday, November 27. There will be no rehearsals from December 23, 2023-January 1st, 2024. 

The show will run from Jan 18th-Jan 21st at 7 Stages Backstage Theatre in Atlanta. Performances will begin at 8:00p with the exception of the closing performance which will be a 2:00p matinee. The call time for actors will be approximately one hour before the start of the show.
